Except for the United Kingdom, there are few countries where royal authorities rule and where the king plays a significant role.
However, one king made a name for himself through his divisive lifestyle and other antics. Vajralongkorn, also known as “King Rama X,” is Thailand’s king and is well-known for his scandalous conduct.
Who is Rama X, King of Thailand?
If you are unfamiliar with King Rama X’s history, this is the best place to start. On July 28, 1951, King Rama X was born, the only son of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit.
His educational experience started in England when he was 13 years old. Since then, he desired to enroll in an Australian military academy. At the age of 17, he completed his military education and graduated from Australia’s Royal Military College, Duntroon. He told the BBC that he failed to keep up in school in England and Australia, blaming his childhood in the Thai palace.
On October 13, 2016, when his father died, he was supposed to succeed as king, which he did. He accepted the throne on December 1, 2016, and his coronation took place from 6-7 May 2019. As the tenth monarch of the Chakri dynasty, he is also known as Rama X, and the Thai government actively recognizes him as Thailand’s king. He is the oldest Thai king to have accepted the throne, having been crowned at 64.
King Rama X does not spend much time in his homeland; he spends most of his time in Germany with his family. While the monarchy’s official ceremonial residence is at Bangkok’s Grand Palace, the king has maintained his privacy at Dusit Palace.
Rama X and His Wives
Vajiralongkorn’s private life with his four wives is very colorful. His first wife, ‘Princess Soamsawali Kitiyakara,’ married him in 1977, and from her, he had a beautiful daughter, ‘Princess Najrakitiyabha.’ Being Thailand’s King Rama X, an affair is unsurprising, even more so with the popular Thai actress Yuvadhida Polpraserth, with whom he had five children. His first wife refused to divorce him despite repeated demands, but Vajiralongkorn eventually got his wish in 1993 when he declared that “the blame for the marriage’s failure lay squarely at his wife’s gates.”
Second Wife: Having a second wife would not be a blessing if the marriage did not work out after 15 years of affair. Yuvadhida Polpraserth fled to Britain with her children after just two years, which infuriated King Rama X. His reaction was intolerable as he plastered posters of her around the palace, accusing her of adultery. He later abducted her daughter, who became Princess of Thailand and deprived his wife and other children of their royal status. She now resides in the United States with her children.
Third Spouse: Srirasmi Suwanee, King Rama X’s third wife, began working with him in 1992 and married him in 2001 but kept the marriage private. They made it public in 2005, and he has several songs from her. Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti was created a prince by her husband the following year, but Vajiralongkorn encountered difficulties with the wife’s parents once again. He requested that their royal titles be revoked in light of accusations of wrongdoing against some of her relatives. Srirasmi abdicated all royal titles and divorced him after 13 years with a 4.4 million euro settlement.
4th Wife: He married Suthida Tidjai, his fourth wife, three days after being proclaimed king. Suthida Tidjai was the acting commander of the Royal Thai Aide-de-Camp Department. However, things did not work out. He bestowed the title of Chao Khun Phra on Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi, which translates as royal noble consort. By this heinous act, the 34-year-old had become the first royal consort in nearly 25 years, which meant she was an official companion to the king but not to the queen.
Within three months, he stripped her of her title.
“She was impolite to the queen and unfaithful to me.” In a brief comment, he said that “the royal consort’s actions were deemed arrogant,” demonstrating “disobedience toward the king and queen” and exploiting her authority to issue orders on behalf of the king.
What is King Rama X’s net worth?
Now comes one of the most critical questions: how much is King Rama X worth? King Vajiralongkorn, aka King Rama X, was crowned on January 20, 2021, with assets estimated to be worth up to US$43 billion.
Even Fortune magazine,
“King Vajiralongkorn’s wealth is derived from his 23 percent ownership of Siam Commercial Bank, one of the country’s largest lenders, and Siam Cement Group, the country’s largest industrial conglomerate).
Additionally, he owns about 6,500 hectares (16,000 acres) of prime land and has more than 40,000 rental leases with developers.”
King Rama X is unmistakably different from the other kings; he is currently quarantined at Germany’s Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl. Rather than in his native country, King Rama X spends the majority of his time in Germany.
