Besides being rich in culture and history, our country is blessed with a unique food palette. Desi foods have the ability to make you miss home when abroad or satisfy your cravings happily.

Here is a roundup of a few Desi food’s worth eating:

1. Halwa Poori

Halwa Poori: In Pakistan most families celebrate Sunday mornings by having Halwa Poori for breakfast. They either go out to various places like boat basin or burns road for it or either purchase it from a nearby shop and eat at home. Very few go through the trouble of making. However, we can call it our national breakfast for Sunday since most families prefer it.

2. Lassi

Lassi: Lahore is notorious for lassi however it one desi drink that everyone craves for on a hot day or regularly. It is a combination of yogurt, milk with sugar or without it. Easily available on roadside venders or milk shops.

03. Chaana Chat/mix plate

Chaana Chat/mix plate: Desi food is incomplete without mentioning Channa chat or basic chaat which has a tangy, sweet and savory taste. All combined in one plate hence the name mix plate. In Karachi a few famous places are Flamingo, Chatkharay and Dil pasand.

04. Gol Gappay

Gol Gappay: Another savory yet tangy easy go to food . Very economical and yet very tasty.

05. Biryani

Biryani: Weddings are incomplete without this spicy mix of rice with chicken .For any celebration we celebrate with biryani. It is the main dish on the menu.

06. Haleem

Haleem: A delicious blend of chicken and split pulses (lentils, peas and beans) topped with spices . People either make it at home or buy it. However a dish worth trying.
